One of the best ways to accumulate any kind of spiritual wealth is to practice Sanskrit Mantras and Meditation daily over a long period of time.
One may see quick results after just starting a spiritual practice but the real fruits of practice, in my experience, come after years of sustained effort.
This is good and bad news.
What’s great is; it’s in your hands, you have the power to create a sustainable daily practice. You have the power to change your life – to reach for enlightenment. To change your experience of what it is to be alive.
The bad news is; it will test you, there will be many days you don’t feel like doing your practice – you might get sick – you might be on business trips – ah there are so many excuses we can find.
So, how do we create a sustainable practice – one we can do daily even through the rough times?
We create a basic practice that we do daily NO MATTER WHAT. Make it really doable. Something you can commit to. Then put on top of that the other practices you are up for that day.
Maybe you have a baseline Spiritual practice of daily meditation and Mantra repetition of the Gayatri, for example. What a lovely practice. But instead of having your baseline is an hour of meditation and 5 malas of Gayatri, you could have just 15 minutes of Meditation and a half mala of Gayatri – Most days you’ll do the full practice, but on those days things are tough, you’ll still be able to uphold your daily practice and keep your momentum going.
There is a lovely Mantra of Ganesha that helps us practitioners on our path, dissolving energy blockages – some blockages could be the thing that stops us. They might appear in the form of excuses, and keep us from completing our practices.
The Ganesha Mantra is:
OM VIGNA NASHANAYA NAMAHA
SALUTATIONS TO GANESHA AS DISSOLVER OF ENERGY BLOCKAGES
Ganesha is found in both Hindu and Buddhist traditions. Ganesha is the one that helps us bring the energy up the Shushmna – as he rides the rat – our ego. It is He that can help us dissolve the Samskaras or Kleshas along our way. So a great one to propitiate!
Put together a gentle baseline Spiritual practice and stick with it. You’ll be so happy when you realize it’s been 3 months of continuous practice – Oh! now 6 months – now a year – now 5 years – Wow!!! Now 25 years – and truly a new way of being in the world.
